'I read a little, often sleep. For fleeting fame I do not weep.' - Pushkin

The Russian aristocrat Alexander Sergeyvich Pushkin (1799-1837) was fashionably touchy about his honour. He died defending it in a duel at the age of 37. His verse novel Eugene Onegin, famously made into a ballet with the same name, captures the Romantic spirit: an aristocrat learns the hard way that if you don’t want love when on offer, it’s not on offer when you want it.

This quote is from the 55th verse of Eugene Onegin.
